I did it! I'm done! ...Now what?

It's been almost two months since I finished my masters degree. On paper it looks like I've done quite a bit:

  • I moved back to Toronto from Montreal

  • Moved in with my fiancee (and actually got around to telling everyone who still didn't know!)

  • Returned to my old job (not music-related, but I can buy my own groceries again!)

  • Got a second job (teaching! yay!)

  • Had some gigs (big thanks to some really great friends!)

  • Met some people, networked

  • Sent in a proposal

  • Started making this site.

Seems really great, right? Here's what's missing:

  • I binge watched at least 3 shows, multiple seasons

  • Went to the gym almost once a week

  • Attempted to get into some kind of practice routine, with no success

  • Covered for a friend at work for two weeks, preventing me from doing just about anything else

  • Came up with a whole bunch of great ideas, not sure if I'll ever actually get around to seeing them through

I'm not one of the lucky few who can finish school with a big fancy job lined up, nor am I a competition winner. Not even an applicant. For the first time since I was four years old, I'm not in school. I have no idea what I'm doing at this point. But I do have some ideas and some great people who have helped guide me in the right direction. I know what I have to do, I just have to get off my lazy butt and do it.

Seeing as I've been meaning to write this post since Christmas, maybe it's a sign that things are turning around and I'll start getting things done. So long as I can scale down the nonmusical things, I can accomplish my goals. Everyone needs a break once in a while, and for me it took me a little longer than I thought it would for me to not only feel refreshed but excited and antsy to get back to the instrument. But I'm there. So get excited because big things are coming.
